Google rolls out the much awaited Penguin 2.0 version as announced by Matt Cutts few weeks ago. This version is considered as a generation next version of the Penguin, which is going to have a big impact on certain areas of SEO especially web spam. Cutts emphasises, “It’s a brand new generation of algorithms. The previous iteration of Penguin would essentially only look at the home page of a site. The newer generation of Penguin goes much deeper and has a really big impact in certain small areas.”
Penguin 2.0 is a comprehensive version that is all set to target the Black Hat Web Spammers . This new algorithm will also have an effect on the non- English queries as well. Google’s Distinguished Engineer Matt Cutts in his blog expressed his satisfaction on this new version and said, “We started rolling out the next generation of the Penguin web spam algorithm this afternoon (May 22, 2013), and the rollout is now complete. About 2.3% of English-US queries are affected to the degree that a regular user might notice. The change has also finished rolling out for other languages world-wide. The scope of Penguin varies by language, e.g. languages with more web spam will see more impact.”
Matt Cutts in early May, hinted at the new version of Penguin 2.0, when he tweeted, “we do expect to roll out Penguin 2.0 (next generation of Penguin) sometime in the next few weeks though.”
The new version has finally being launched with all new algorithms, matching the high expectations of the tech world. The scope of Penguin varies by language, and languages with more web spam will see more impact than anything else. It would be interesting to see how the SEO world deals with this new version as it is going to have a heavy impact on spamming at large.
